85 items is the minimum. The maximum is 150. Most test-takers answer 100–145.
How hard is the NCLEX compared to nursing school exams?
It emphasizes clinical judgment and prioritization rather than raw memorization. Many students find it different but not necessarily harder.
When will I know my results?
Official results come from your State Board of Nursing in 2–6 business days. Unofficial results via NCSBN's Quick Results service ($8) in 48 hours.
Can I retake the NCLEX if I fail?
Yes — 45-day waiting period between attempts, maximum 8 per year. Most states allow unlimited lifetime attempts.
