Is the GMAT still relevant in 2026 with GRE accepted?

Yes โ€” most top MBA programs still give a slight preference to GMAT, and it's specifically designed for business school predictive validity.

How many times can I take the GMAT?

Up to 5 times in a rolling 12-month period and 8 times total lifetime. You must wait 16 days between attempts.

How long should I study?

Most successful candidates study 100โ€“200 hours over 2โ€“4 months. Target 120+ hours for a 705+ score.

Can I choose section order?

Yes โ€” on test day you pick any order of Quant, Verbal, Data Insights. Choose your strongest section last to preserve stamina.

What's a good GMAT Focus score for Harvard/Stanford/Wharton?

Average at M7 schools is around 730โ€“740 on the old scale, which maps to roughly 685โ€“695 on the Focus 205โ€“805 scale.

Is there a writing section?

No โ€” Analytical Writing was removed from the Focus Edition. Essays are scored only on admissions applications themselves.
