Overview
The GMAT Focus Edition (launched 2023) is a 2-hour-15-minute computer-adaptive exam used by 7,700+ business programs globally. It replaced the older GMAT in early 2024 and focuses on three sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights. The Analytical Writing section was removed. Scores run from 205 to 805 and remain valid for 5 years.
Question Types
Problem Solving (Quant)
Classic math MCQ with 5 answer choices. Focus on efficient solving over brute force.

Reading Comprehension
3โ4 passages each with 3โ4 questions. Business, science, humanities themes.

Critical Reasoning
Short arguments testing your ability to analyze logic.

- โIdentify the conclusion and evidence
- โPre-phrase an answer

Data Sufficiency
Determine whether statements provide enough info to answer โ don't compute.

- โMemorize the 5-answer pattern (AD/BCE)
- โEvaluate each statement independently first
- โNever combine unless both are insufficient alone
Multi-Source Reasoning
Multiple tabs of info; synthesize across sources.
Strategies
- โRead all tabs before answering
- โTrack which source each detail comes from
- โExpect some yes/no batch questions
Graphics Interpretation
Read a chart/graph and complete a sentence with dropdowns.
Strategies
- โIdentify axes and units first
- โRe-read the prompt carefully

General Strategies
- 1.Take a full-length diagnostic first to set a baseline โ don't skip this step.
- 2.Master the fundamentals (arithmetic, algebra, grammar) before tackling advanced strategy.
- 3.Time per question: ~2:09 Quant, ~1:57 Verbal, ~2:15 Data Insights. Practice with a timer.
- 4.Review every wrong answer thoroughly โ understanding one mistake is worth doing ten more problems.
- 5.Use the Official Guide + 2โ3 full-length practice tests per month in the last 6 weeks.
