Writing Overview
Cosmetology licensing is required in all 50 US states to practice professional hair, skin, and nail services. Candidates complete state-required clock hours (1,000–2,100 hours depending on state) then pass a written theory exam and a practical skills exam.
Note: Cosmetology License does not have a dedicated writing section. This guide covers general test preparation.

- 1.Milady's Standard Cosmetology is the primary textbook used in most schools — study from it.
- 2.Sanitation rules are heavily weighted — memorize EPA-registered disinfectant protocols.
- 3.pH and color theory overlap in many questions — understand the full color wheel and levels.
- 4.Use NIC (National Interstate Council) practice exams — many states use NIC as their exam provider.
- 5.Create anatomy flashcards: facial bones, muscles, and nerves are tested in every state exam.
